iPhone 5, 5C and 5S LCD and Screen shortages equal price rises.
iPhone 5, 5C and 5S screen replacements have doubled over the last month. This is likely due to LG not currently releasing LCD’s to Chinese manufacturers for reasons so far unknown. LG are the producers of the lower quality LCD’s for iPhone 5, 5C and 5S. Sharp are the producers of the higher quality LCD’s for iPhone 5, 5C and 5S and are currently the only new option for Chinese manufacturers.
What this means for you…
Australian wholesale prices for iPhone 5, 5C and 5S screen replacements have doubled in the last month and may still rise further.
This also does not mean quality will go up in all repair shops. Why is this… Reconditioned LCD’s with replacement glass (can be original or aftermarket glass) have always been a cheap option for repairers. We do not use these as the rate of issues from re manufacture is considerably higher than new screen replacements. undoubtedly the rate of use of these reconditioned sub grade screens will go up and its a fair assumption cheaper repairs will use these cheaper parts.
Our pricing formula is basically retail price of parts plus labour. We calculate this set price labour on the skill level of an average technician with 12 months experience. We also never rush to get more done in a shorter time as quality is paramount over imidate profit for Fix Your Crack.
So for iPhone 5, 5C we specify 40 minutes to properly swap over the small parts like the home button, microphone and speaker (cleaning and servicing these parts as we go) so $80 for the labour component of the repair (5 minutes longer for iPhone 5S). iPhone 5 original part RRP was $70 and aftermarket $50. We will absorb most of the current price rise so only raise the part prices by $10 each for current parts prices as we all want a good priced repair.
